I loved playing Master of Magic as a teenager in the 1990s, I replayed it endlessly. I particularly loved playing as the dark elves on the dark side world Myrran. Their magical powers gave almost all their units great power especially in ranged attacks. I replayed the game again and again for a good 5 years but in my biggest and best game yet I got very stuck battling some great drakes (super dragons) and in typical impatient teenage style I decided to move on to other things lol and as the years ticked by it seemed like I'd never return to the game. Sadly Simtex and Micropose came to an end and 2 attempts at a sequel were never finished. In the years since Atari (currently the license holders) had been unwilling to let anyone make a sequel demanding vast amounts of money from any studio who has asked, however FINALLY in 2019 they sold it to Slitherine to make a new Master of Magic game!!! Over the years I've thought of that final game where I got stuck and now 15 years later I decided to re-install the game in dosbox and load my old saves. Even now the game still has its beauty and has been a joy to play so I went back in and found a way to defeat those super dragons! I commenced my own invasions into the light world Arcania and conquered all my enemies smashing a few more super dragon nests on the way haha. It was great fun to return to this classic of a game.. and it got me very hungry for its spiritual sequels so I decided to create this page and show you all the great games out there similar to and inspired by Master of Magic. This game really was the dawn of turn based fantasy strategy gaming. Yes there were others before it but none had the depth or impact Master of Magic had. A lot of the fan forums have sadly been dying over the years so I've started a Master of Magic Facebook Group to create a new active MoM fan community, I also help run the Master of Magic Discord Group too, so if you love MoM please join and show your support! I recently and excitedly discovered that Simtex and Micropose did indeed do a followup MoM game called Civizard - Majutsu no Keifu, a PlayStation remake of Master of Magic with totally new graphics and a remastered soundtrack. Sadly the game was only released in Japan hence why most of the western world have no idea this even exists. I'm currently working on an English translation of the game so that MoM fans can try it out. Check out my tribute page below to learn more! As mentioned above in 2019 Slitherine bought the rights to Master of Magic from Atari's IP dungeon and gave hints that they are working on a Master of Magic sequel or remake. They also returned MoM to the stores with Steam and GoG and even made a deal with Caster of Magic mod creator Seravy to publish his mod as an official addon! In 2021 Seravy released Caster of Magic 2 (CoM for Windows) a total rebuild of the Master of Magic engine with CoM features built in. Then if that wasn't enough Slitherine then announced that we're getting an OFFICIAL REMAKE OF MASTER OF MAGIC!! I hope to update this tribute page with more details on all this in the near future. It's great to see Master of Magic relevant again and that we're getting new MoM games! If you know of any Master of Magic related game projects I haven't listed below please Contact Me.
